High Resolution Settlement Layer (HRSL) – A high resolution population dataset obtained from satellite imagery.
The HRSL dataset provides estimates of human population distribution at a resolution of 1 arc-second (approximately 30m).
The dataset can be downloaded from the CIESIN website. A description of the methodology and analysis of the accuracy can be found in our paper Mapping the world population one building at a time, and more background can be found in our blogposts Open population datasets and open challenges and Connecting the world with better maps.
