Researcher

I am a UX researcher on Facebook’s Core Business Platform research team. Before coming to Facebook, I received my PhD from Washington University in St. Louis and worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at University of Maryland. Over the past 15 years, my research has focused on the social dynamics of health and illness and individuals’ interface with health systems and health technologies in sub-Saharan Africa, South and Central America, and East and Southeast Asia. My book, Fistula Politics: Birthing Injuries and the Quest for Continence in Niger, was published in October 2018. I am passionate about the transformative potential of technology to create and reinforce relationships, offer new forms of community, provide information and expanded options for medical care, challenge oppressive social norms, and enhance the potential for democracy and equity.
