Michael Meaney

UX Researcher

I am a UX Researcher and Research Lead on the Facebook App Commerce team. My product work has focused on employment and educational products for social mobility, and commerce products bringing friends and families closer together. I use a mix of computational, design-based, and ethnographic methods to pursue these interests.

I completed my PhD in Educational Research at the University of Cambridge, where I was a Gates Cambridge Scholar. My research focuses on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and open-scale educational resources, how these resources can reproduce inequalities in society, how to design them in a more inclusive manner, and their impact on labor market mobility. I previously worked as a public school teacher in Phoenix, Arizona, an as a Product Manager and University Innovation Fellow at Arizona State University. I received a bachelor’s degree in International Politics from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University.
